Apple announced that Pokemon Go was the most-downloaded app on the iOS store in 2016. That’s a massive accomplishment, considering just how competitive the app store is, with millions of apps competing for attention and money.
What’s just as impressive is that Super Mario Run made it to the top 10 most downloaded list, despite being released in the middle of December. Super Mario Run has been downloaded 90 million times (but only 3 million actually purchased the full game).
Pokemon Go was a worldwide phenomenon when it launched last Summer. Interest in the game has since slowed down, but it’s still a popular app, routinely appearing on the “most popular” list.
And if anyone was wondering about the status of mobile gaming: Apple revealed that developers made $20 billion on the app store in 2016, much of that revenue going to games developers. That’s more than the entire home console market.
