Ever since Sony has debuted PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, a glorified Super Smash Bros. clone, Microsoft fans have been asking for something similar for Xbox fans. Fans want to see characters like Master Chief and Marcus Feenix battle it out in grand arena style, but according to Phil Spencer that’s just not going to happen. In an explanation to a fan asking why Microsoft doesn’t leverage a brawler game like Super Smash Bros., Spencer praises Nintendo’s massive IP catalogue and says it’s the only reason a game like that works well.

It’s nice to see the competition acknowledge that part of what makes Super Smash Bros. unique as a series is it has characters people love and grew up playing in a brawler setting. The “finding others less interesting” dig was certainly leveraged at Sony’s attempt with PlayStation All Stars.
