According to Michael Pachter, the Wii U is having a stronger year than in 2013, where Pachter estimates the Wii U sold around 65k units in August. Compared to sales numbers in the same period last year, that means the Wii U has managed to increase its sales by 111% over the same period. This is largely due to the success of Mario Kart 8. Still, the Wii U finds itself behind the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One according to Pachter’s estimates, which were 175k units for PS4 and 150k for Xbox One.

The Wii U still has several high profile games coming out this holiday season, including Super Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, and Hyrule Warriors. Despite Pachter predicting higher than normal sales for the Wii U in August, the analyst still believes that Nintendo is behind in terms of online connectivity and that it would do better to abandon specific game hardware altogether.
