Now we know why Nintendo didn't want to publish Devil's Third: because it sucks

Nintendo originally didn’t want to bring Devil’s Third to North America. In fact, they didn’t want to publish it at all. Many Wii U fans were outraged over this, but Nintendo knew what they were doing.

They didn’t want to publish Devil’s Third because the game sucks. Nintendo didn’t showcase the game at E3, which also angered Wii U fans quite a bit — they believed that Nintendo was preventing them from playing a cool Wii U game. The opposite was true: Nintendo was trying to spare Wii U fans of the disaster that has now happened with Devil’s Third.

Rumors about Nintendo’s dissatisfaction with the quality of the game have now been confirmed, but as hordes of Nintendo fans descended on the publisher, Nintendo eventually caved in and brought the game to the US.

So far, Devil’s Third has been a disaster: the game has been panned by critics and gamers alike, and has a Metacritic rating of just 40. This makes it the lowest-rated Wii U exclusive (it’s also coming to the PC in the future).

The first previews of Devil’s Third provided a hint that something truly bad was going on, and those hints turned out to be true: Devil’s Third is one of the worst Nintendo-published games on the Wii U.

“As hordes of Nintendo fans descended on the publisher, Nintendo eventually caved in and brought the game to the US.”

Developed by Valhalla Game Studios and director Tomonobu Itagaki, known for Ninja Gaiden, there was a lot of hope for Devil’s Third. Development started way back in 2008, and was plagued by various delays. Still, 7 years of development, a lot of it funded by Nintendo, led to a very broken game.

Critics have panned Devil’s Third for its lackluster combat, useless violence, and pay-to-win multiplayer, and worst of all, it seems that it’s not even a fit for the Wii U and doesn’t use the GamePad in any meaningful way.
