If you’ve been following the saga of Nintendo’s GameCube controller adapter, you know it’s made waves in the Smash community. It’s a necessary accessory for anyone who wants to try out the new local 8 player Smash mode and the fact that you need two of them means they’re being snatched up rather quickly. So much so that retailers are having trouble keeping them in stock, which has led to some like Amazon UK cancelling orders because they can’t fulfill them.

Thanks to the hysteria of trying to find one of these adapters and some Amiibos being confirmed to be more rare than others, rumors have been circling that Nintendo plans on discontinuing the GameCube adapter and that it was a limited time item for the Smash release. Nintendo of Europe has quelled this rumor with the following statement:

We would like to reassure you that GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U has not been discontinued by Nintendo of Europe and we are doing everything we possibly can to meet the demand which is currently outstripping supply.

We are unable to comment specifically on individual retailer stock levels and as such we ask customers to contact their local retailers directly regarding their availability of this product. We would however like to reassure you that we are working hard to ensure that additional stock can be made available and delivered to retailers.

So there you have it, folks. No, the GameCube adapter isn’t going anywhere, they’re just really, really low on stock because they didn’t expect you all to buy two immediately.
