Nintendo is no stranger to patent suits regarding their peripherals, but today marks yet another victory for the company over patent trolls. A case was decided today in Nintendo’s favor in a Seattle federal court, with the patent trolls having to pay Nintendo’s attorney’s fees. The suit was first raised in May 2013 by Ithaca Ventures and Ithaca Development, alleging that Nintendo’s Wii balance board infringed on their patents.

Nintendo filed a motion to have the case dismissed as meritless, but Ithaca Ventures was required to withdraw the ongoing case in Seattle after a German court determined that Ithaca’s European patent had no bearing on the Wii balance board. Of course, Nintendo issued the standard response to the case, confirming that it doesn’t pay to take Nintendo to court over patent issues.

Nintendo will vigorously defend its innovations against patent lawsuits, and will not pay to resolve meritless accusations, no matter whether the case is filed in the United States or elsewhere.

Nintendo has overcome frivolous litigation in the past, including cases that target the Wii and Wii U’s motion controls and multi-screen technology in the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
