Nintendo will soon allow pre-loading on Wii U & Nintendo 3DS games

Super-Smash-Bros-header

Following in the footsteps of PC gamers and Steam has been the consoles this year, with both Microsoft and Sony offering the ability to pre-download digital titles you’ve already purchased so they’re ready to play the instant the clock hits midnight. Nintendo is jumping on board that pre-download train, offering Super Smash Bros. as the first title that you’ll be able to pre-download for release.

This is an important step toward a digital future, since many internet connections make downloading things the day of release hectic, especially if lots of people are hammering the servers at once. By getting the download out of the way ahead of release at at your own pace, the experience is improved. Unfortunately, the Nintendo 3DS won’t have this feature enabled until next year.

Are you buying Super Smash Bros. digitally? Do you plan on pre-loading it?
