Nintendo tested a 3D screen for Wii U controller

Wii U 3d
The Wii U console sets itself apart from every other console on the market with its innovative Wii U controller, which features a touchscreen. However, according to Kotaku, Nintendo considered an even more radical design: adding a 3D touchscreen to the controller instead of a regular one.

According to a patent application dating back to September 2011, Nintendo filed an idea for a 3D screen, but added a caveat to the filing, saying that the 3D feature may or may not make it into the final product. We now know that it won’t, but it’s interesting to see Nintendo toying with the idea of a 3D screen on a controller. Perhaps for the Wii U 2 🙂

We’ve previously reported that the Wii U supports 3D gaming on TV sets that support 3D.
