Nintendo: Switch Online is the successor to Virtual Console

Last month Nintendo confirmed that Virtual Console will not be coming to the Switch. At E3 we were hoping that Nintendo would announce its successor, but it seems that they already have: according to Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo Switch Online is the successor to the Virtual Console.

Fils-Aime told IGN:

“The Virtual Console successor is Nintendo Switch Online, right? With the mentality that says we’re going to be offering a slate of games, and it’s a slate that’s going to increase over time. For many of these games, there’s going to be additional online capability provided in those games. That’s the vision we have for how to best bring our legacy content to Nintendo Switch.”

He added that he believes Switch Online will eventually be better than Virtual Console, with the possibility of cloud saves and the addition of more legacy content over time. He said, in his famous marketing speak, that they are “going to enable us to continue offering a varied slate of opportunities from an online experience standpoint”.

Now, what about GameCube games…
