Nintendo’s best selling console in fiscal year 2016 was the 3DS, selling 7.27 million units worldwide. Safe to say, the 3DS is far from dead.
Thanks to the release of Pokemon Sun & Moon, 3DS sales saw a big spike during the release of the new games. Pokemon Sun & Moon sold over 15 million units last year.
Nintendo had seven 3DS games sell more than a million units, including Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario Maker. You can check out the full list here.
And Nintendo has similar expectations for the 3DS in 2017 fiscal year: they expect to sell 6 million 3DS units and 40 million 3DS games. While those numbers would be the lowest yearly 3DS sales ever, it’s quite good for a console as old as the 3DS.
