Nintendo just wrapped up their Nintendo Direct video stream, where they talked about the Wii U, and some of the new features for the console. They revealed that the official name for the controller is the Wii U GamePad, and revealed that the controller supports dual analog sticks that are clickable, the NFC technology, and much of what we already knew. They also added that the GamePad will be able to work without the TV screen at all, and that there’s a button to switch between the TV and controller. In one of the videos, a black Wii U was also showcased, which could indicate several Wii U models at launch.
Wii U Miiverse
Another thing that was announced was Miiverse, which is a sort of social network for the Wii U, Miiverse lets players connect their Miis with their online friends, post status updates, share screenshots and videos, and more. Players can also use the Wii U stylus to send handwritten messages to friends, or to even send drawings. the Miiverse is standard on the console as part of the Wii U operating system.
Wii U Pro controller
Finally, the company also unveiled the Wii U Pro Controller, which features advanced button layout for those who want a more classic controller to play their games with. The Wii U pro controller is expected to be sold separately and won’t be bundled with the Wii U console. Nintendo also teased about the “powerful Wii U hardware”, which they said will be showcased next week during E3.
We’ll have a detailed report on all of the announcements made during the presentation, but it looks like Nintendo is setting itself up for a big E3 this year.
