Nintendo TVii, the TV hub for the Wii U console, will be shutting down on August 11th, the company announced. Nintendo TVii offered a TV integration into the console, where users could browse TV channels and use the Wii U GamePad as a second screen experience.
However, the service never really took off, mainly due to the fact that there wasn’t a real DVR functionality, and thanks to complex TV rights and platforms, it was hard to get a lot of channels on board.
And there’s the fact that very few Wii U owners bothered to use TVii in the first place.
Nintendo will also be shutting down the TVii Miiverse community as well on August 11th.
RIP Nintendo TVii. 2012 – 2015
