Nintendo of America says sold out amiibo may return

Since the launch of amiibo with Super Smash Bros., we’ve had quite the roller coaster ride in determining whether or not Nintendo plans on replenishing stock of characters who have already sold out. Currently The Villager, Marth, and the Wii Fit Trainer are some of the hardest to find figures anywhere.

Initially during his investor Q&A presentation in answering a question asked about amiibo, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata confirmed that the company had plans to keep some of the amiibo in limited production runs, while ensuring others who are more popular characters will always be available. After launch, we quickly saw the supply of certain characters dry up, so many have wondered if they’re out of luck. A Nintendo representative said that Nintendo will always be replenishing stock and that information has now been corroborated by Nintendo of America. Here’s their official statement on the short supply of amiibo figures across the United States, Canada, and the Latin America.

“Some amiibo were very popular at launch, and it is possible that some amiibo in the United States, Canada and Latin America may not be available right now due to high demand and our efforts to manage shelf space during the launch period,” said a Nintendo representative. “Certain sold-out amiibo may return to these markets at a later stage. We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of amiibo in the marketplace and there are many waves of amiibo to come.”

It’s nice to see that those who missed out on getting certain characters during the initial rush don’t have to worry too much, but remember certain amiibos are exclusive in certain regions. For example, Lucario is exclusive to Toys R Us, Meta Knight is exclusive to Best Buy, and Shulk will be a GameStop exclusive. These figures won’t be available until February, but that’s when you’ll need to shop at several locations in order to get your hands on all of them.
