Nintendo keeps the new NX console secret, fearing competitors might steal ideas

Ever wonder why Nintendo hasn’t revealed anything about the new Nintendo NX console yet? So far all we have is the codename — NX — and some rumors about it possibly running Android games via emulation.

But in terms of raw facts from Nintendo, there is absolutely nothing released yet, even though some expect the NX to be launched as soon as next year.

The reason for this is simple, according to Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata, who says that the company is keeping a tight lid on the NX project because they don’t want competitors to “take their ideas” has he put it, adding that “customers won’t be surprised” — implying that the NX will be a big surprise to Nintendo fans.

Speaking to investors, Iwata said, “We can’t talk about the NX. If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won’t be surprised”, adding “This would not be beneficial for the company or its shareholders.”

He also said that Nintendo continues to support the Wii U and 3DS, even though they are working on the NX. Iwata has previously said that the NX will be a “brand new concept.”

Iwata noted in the past that the Nintendo NX might be region free as well.
