Speaking to All Things D, Reggie said that Nintendo have big ambitions for Miiverse, adding:
“As the network grows and the installed base grows, it [Miiverse] will prove to be a true killer application for the system, and I say this loving what we have done with Nintendo TVii and loving all the games. Until you try it and experience it, you may not totally understand it”
Miiverse will be built-in and a part of every Wii U console. Nintendo will implement the feature into its own games. For example, players can leave messages and hints to one another in New Super Mario Bros U, offering tips and comments on the levels and the game in general. Third party developers have access to the feature as well — ZombiU will support Miiverse. For example, ZombiU will use Miiverse to notify players when their friends die so they can loot their dead bodies. This is just one of the Miiverse features in the game.
Miiverse will also offer a communications platform, where players can post Twitter-like status updates, send each other screenshots and hand-drawn images, and even video chat with the built-in VGA camera on the Wii U GamePad controller. Reggie added:
“What Miiverse is doing is quite different from anything else that’s being done, especially with the ability to hand draw messages and things of that nature.”
Miiverse, and the recently announced Nintendo TVii, will ship with every Wii U console and will be free to use.
