Nintendo met with Valve in 2011 about possible collaboration

Here’s a big “what could have happened”: Nintendo and Valve boss Gabe Newell met about seven years ago about a possible joint venture.

Nothing happened, according to Grey Newell, son of Gabe Newell who accompanied his father on the trip. He also said he got to play Super Mario Galaxy with Shigeru Miyamoto.

Here’s what he told on a recent episode of ValveNewsNetwork:

“…my dad was talking to him (either late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata or Miyamoto) about some joint project. I think it was about the original Wii that ended up not happening. This was like probably seven years ago. It was super casual.”

This was at the end of Wii’s cycle. Next year, Nintendo would go on to launch the Wii U.
