Today Nintendo announced its intention to pull out of the Brazilian market. This means Nintendo will no longer offer its game consoles, handhelds or video games in the region, which means fans of the games will need to import them themselves from another region. Nintendo cites the reasoning as high taxes, but it’s a myriad of problems.

Currently there is no information on what will happen with the Brazilian Nintendo 3DS eShop or whether people will be able to back up any games they downloaded from it. The Wii U launched in Brazil about a year after its worldwide release, in November of 2013. At launch, the cost of the machine was R$1899, which equals about $829 USD. At the time of its launch, the Brazilian Wii U was the most expensive in the world.
