Despite having a lackluster year for Wii U sales across the globe, it looks like the Wii U is on the rebound this Christmas, thanks to several high profile releases this year. Both Splatoon and Super Mario Maker are extremely popular in Japan, which has likely led to the 80k consoles moved in the final week before the Christmas season.
Both Super Mario Maker and Splatoon charted within the top ten this week, while seven of the remaining top ten spots were filled by Nintendo 3DS games. Only the PS4 version of Fallout 4 managed to claim a top spot with its new release this week.

Hardware Sales
As you can see, sales of the Wii U nearly doubled versus last week in Japan, so Nintendo is having a pretty good end of the year, especially when considering PS4 sales.
