Nintendo eShop 24 hour maintenance due to server replacement

Yesterday Nintendo launched a maintenance period for the Wii U and 3DS eShops (DS and Wii also affected) with a 24 hour period warning. Very little information was given on the maintenance page about why this period is taking so long, but according to a Japanese tweet that has been translated, it’s because Nintendo is replacing some server hardware for these services.

While that’s pretty routine maintenance, we don’t expect to see anything new once the eShop finally comes back up, other than some new music for celebrating the upcoming release of Yo-Kai Watch perhaps. Either way, you’ll have to wait until late in the evening tonight to explore the Nintendo eShop again. Servers won’t be up until 7pm PST/10pm EST.
