Nintendo confirms E3 plans, including digital presentation and more Best Buy demos

E3 Nintendo

Last year Nintendo changed up the game in terms of how it presents itself at E3. This year the company will be continuing some of the trends started, as detailed in a new press release. Four new details about Nintendo’s upcoming presence at E3 have been released, letting us get a glimpse of how Nintendo plans on making sure the gaming world at large knows about its offerings. Reggie Fils-Aime commented on this new direction for Nintendo, stating that the company is never afraid of breaking new ground:

We demonstrated last year that we are never afraid to reinvent a proven tactic or to break completely new ground if we believe it will provide the best experience for our fans, followers and partners. So, whether you’re attending E3 in person or joining online, there’s an amazing lineup of games, experiences and events coming your way.”

There will be four events under the banner “Play Nintendo”, designed to give fans what they want. The first of those is the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, which will see 16 skilled Super Smash Bros. players heading to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles to compete in a Super Smash Bros. Wii U tournament. The tournament will be streamed live for all to see.

Nintendo will also be airing another event similar to last year’s Nintendo Direct. This year they’re calling it a Nintendo Digital Event and plan to outline their plans for all Nintendo platforms live. It will air at 9am PST on June 10. As for actual presence at E3, this year Nintendo is bringing the Treehouse directly to E3. The Treehouse is the colloquial name given to Nintendo of America’s Product Development Department and we’ve seen numerous videos from the team surrounding important releases like Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The Treehouse group will be on hand in Nintendo’s booth at E3, giving demos of Nintendo’s newest games. This event will be available to watch as a stream as well.

Finally, Nintendo is continuing their partnership with Best Buy in order to bring demos of Super Smash Bros. to the public at large. Last year Nintendo announced the partnership that would let fans from across the country attend special Best Buy locations in order to play the same demos that E3 attendees were playing. Right now the only game announced as playable is Super Smash Bros., but there may be more as we get closer to the big event.
