Nintendo 64 turns 18!

Nintendo 64 turns 18!

This weekend, some 18 years ago, the Nintendo 64 launched, ushering a new era in true 3D video games. The Nintendo 64 revolutionized several aspects of gaming — it popularized the use of an analog control stick, the addition of a “rumble” force feedback feature, among other things.

As for the games, Super Mario 64 was the first true 3D platformer with a dynamic camera system, and is considered one of the most revolutionary games of all time. Then there was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which many critics and industry insiders call the greatest video game of all time, and the best reviewed game of all time.

Then there was GoldenEye 007, which was the game that showed the world that a first person shooter on a console was possible. Before there was Halo, or Destiny, or Call of Duty, there was GoldenEye 007.

Those were just some of the Nintendo 64 games that revolutionized gaming. The console had many more amazing games from Nintendo and other developers, and solidified the console as a landmark in gaming.
