For those of you who are enjoying the Year of Luigi, you’ll be happy to hear some of the news that Satoru Iwata shared with us during the latest Nintendo Direct. New Super Luigi U will not feature Mario as a playable character. Instead, for multiplayer mode, Luigi will be joined by Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, and Nabbit. Players of the original game will remember Nabbit as a villain character who stole things from Toad and needed to be chased.

Nabbit is a multiplayer character only and features the same speed and jump as the Toads, but his special ability is the ability to avoid damage instead of powering up. This makes him a great option for children who might want to play with their parents.

In addition to the new character, Iwata also announced to celebrate the year of Luigi, a standalone version of the DLC would be released in stores. This version will be available August 25th, while the downloadable version will be available June 20th. The neat thing about it is it appears to come in a green Wii U case, so for those of you who like your physical games, you may want to wait a month and pick this one up.

The downloadable version is priced at $19.99, while the standalone version will be priced at $29.99. It’s $10 more, but it features that cool green case and artwork for you to add to your collection.
