New Runner2 Wii U gameplay trailer

There are plenty of indie titles on the Wii U eShop, and Runner2 is set to join them in early 2013. A new gameplay trailer has been released today for the game, whose official title is Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, or Runner2, for short. The video shows the sequel to Bit.Trip Runner by Gaijin Games looking somewhat more realistic while maintaining it’s musical charm. The main character, CommanderVideo also has improved motions in this sequel, with all new actions available.

Runner2 Wii UIn the original, one had to collect all of the gold bars in order to complete a level perfectly. While you can opt to do that still, you can also choose to play an easier mode that includes checkpoints, so you don’t have to restart if you die, or “bonk”, late in a level. There will also be new ways to bolster your score. One new way is shown in the trailer, by shooting yourself accurately into a target with a cannon which will be at the end every level.

Added to the sequel is the ability to make CommanderVideo dance by hitting a trigger button. Watch out though, each dance move is not able to be cancelled and lasts a full beat, but you will still need to avoid the obstacles.

There will also be levels with multiple paths that require keys to unlock, and of course, some paths will lead to death. While others will lead to unlockables such as new clothing and characters. Runner2 will also feature a co-op mode on the Wii U where two players will try to work together to get the best score possible, but if one player dies, both must return to the beginning.
