New details surface about Super Ubie Land on Wii U

Super Ubie Land was revealed several months ago, but up until now we haven’t had any solid information about what the team has been working on. That has changed as of today, as the team has posted a development log that details the Wii U version of the game specifically. Perhaps the most important piece of information being addressed in this blog post is that Super Ubie Land on Wii U is not just a port of another version from another platform.

First things first. Super Ubie Land for the Wii U is NOT a port. A lot of people have referred to it as a port. Even we have. But in reality, it’s not a port. While some components of the game will remain the same, others are definitely changing. The biggest change is that the code base for Ubie is being re-written so that it is optimized for the Wii U hardware.

None of the code from the PC version of the game is being used. In addition, you’ll notice that there will be visual differences. Some screens that were present on the PC version may or may not be included in the Wii U version. Also, some of the graphics are also being changed for the Wii U (like the main menu logo, for example). So while the levels and gameplay will be the same, the whole entire backend is being written from the ground up.

This is great news for fans who are looking forward to this game, as the most common reason why multi-platform releases fail on certain platforms is terrible ports. NG Interactive goes into further detail about the current state of the game, but has left a disclaimer that because of certain NDA requirements, they’re unable to disclose more information until the project is further along in development. If you want to read about the rest of the project development so far, be sure to check out their blog.
