Both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have outsold the Wii U in the UK

Over the weekend the PlayStation 4 launched in the UK, selling 250,000 consoles within a 48 hour period. That made it the best-selling console in the region, dethroning the record the PSP held since 2005. The Xbox One hasn’t done nearly as well as the PlayStation 4 with its launch, but they both have one thing in common.

Both new consoles have outsold a year’s worth of Wii U sales in the UK. The Xbox One surpassed 170k sold, beating out the 150k Wii U units that have been sold in a year to date in the region. This sort of numbers makes us better understand why retailers like Asda were dropping the Wii U from shelves in the region.

Nintendo’s sales in the UK have been less than stellar and that’s something the company has acknowledged with numerous game promotions for both the Wii U and the 3DS. Hopefully once everything calms down after this shopping season, Nintendo will be able to focus and get sales up for the UK.
