We’ve heard rumblings about Mother 3 finally getting a Western release ever since Iwata unveiled the original Earthbound for Wii U virtual console a few years ago. Now it’s looking more and more likely that we’ll finally see this elusive Japanese game made available to Western players for the first time.

Right now everything is still a rumor, but according to sources close to Nintendo and verified by Eurogamer, it seems all but likely that this game will grace the Wii U eShop in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game’s release in Japan.

According to the source, the game has been in the final stages of localization at Nintendo of Europe for quite a while now and noted leaker and tipster Emily Rogers tweeted in a now-deleted tweet, “Don’t be surprised if Nintendo celebrates a game’s 10th anniversary this year.” which she posted along with a screenshot from Mother 3.

Fans of Earthbound have been asking for this release for years. Are you excited it’s potentially finally coming?
