Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 were some of the best games on the original Wii, and some of the best Mario games ever — heck, they were some of the best platform games in history, showing just how creative and imaginative the artists at Nintendo are.
Which means there is a lot of anticipation to see what Nintendo will do with the next Super Mario Galaxy game. Many of us expected it on the Wii U at some point, but, with three years into the life of the Wii U and no word from Nintendo, it’s likely not going to happen.
Actually, it’s now certain that we won’t get a Super Mario Galaxy game on the Wii U.
This comes from none other than Shigeru Miyamoto, the man who created Mario and led development of the original Super Mario Galaxy games.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Miyamoto said that making another Galaxy game will be challenging, saying:
“Me and Koizumi-san, director of Galaxy, are always looking to challenge Galaxy and do another 3D action title. However we can’t make so many games at once in parallel. But as the hardware technology gets better and advances, I think there will be a lot of opportunity for both options.”
It’s quite obvious that Miyamoto is referring to the upcoming NX console, but judging from his words, it also seems that a Mario Galaxy game isn’t in full development as of now.
It’s been rumored that Nintendo will launch the NX console in 2016. Nintendo talked about the NX with third parties at E3 a few months ago, and the reaction was positive, according to reports.
