Assets for Minecraft: Story Mode are done inside the original Minecraft engine

Despite being one of the only platforms that doesn’t have Minecraft yet, Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode has close ties to the original game and is coming to Wii U. According to Job Stauffer, who serves as Telltale’s Director of Creative Communications, the environments and sets that are used in the game are actually built inside the original Minecraft engine before being ported over to different platforms.

The sets and the environments and everything that looks like Minecraft is actually built in Minecraft and that gets shifted over to all the different platforms.

Obviously this is most likely the team using the PC version of Minecraft to create assets before moving them over to the various platforms for development, but it seems like it could be a step in the right direction for seeing Minecraft on a Nintendo product. Perhaps the NX in the future? Who can say.
