Minecraft debuts at no. 1 on Switch eShop

If there was any doubt about whether Minecraft would be a hit on the Switch, well that doubt has been put to rest: Minecraft debuted on the Switch eShop at the number 1 spot, beating out the wildly popular Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

And that’s despite Minecraft retailing at a rather hefty $30 on the Switch eShop (considering that the game is over 5 years old at this point).

However, keep in mind that anyone who wanted Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had probably already purchased it at this point, and we know that every Switch owner has bought Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well.

Minecraft on the Switch includes 6 previously released content packs, including the Super Mario Mash Up pack, plus some other Switch-specific features.

Over the past several years, Minecraft has been the top selling third party game on the Wii U eShop week in and week out. It’s quite possible that it will continue its streak on the Switch eShop.
