Minecraft clone being worked on for Wii U by mystery developer

minecraft360

Minecraft is a game that has been cloned to death. Typing in Minecraft on Google Play or iTunes turns up hundreds of thousands of apps that are very similar to Mojang’s (now Microsoft’s) pet project, but one place you won’t find the official version is the Wii U eShop. With Microsoft having purchased Mojang for $2.5 billion dollars, it’s pretty doubtful we’ll ever see Minecraft on the Wii U. That doesn’t mean there isn’t hope for a similar game, however.

According to a recent press email from Hullbreach Studios, there is a developer working on a Minecraft clone for the Wii U eShop. They’ve chosen to call it U Craft. It’s a fitting name given the name of the console and the team plans to release a few alpha images of the game but will not be revealing the team developing it. The email from Hullbreach states that this new project is part of something called Operation Sparticus [sic], which takes its inspiration from the story of Roman slave turned rebel Spartacus.

Either way, color us intrigued. Here’s the full email:

WHAT IS OPERATION SPARTICUS?

Remember when those soldiers wanted to kill Sparticus and he was in a group of people and when the Soldiers came everybody stood up and said I’m Sparticus?

That is the premise for this new PR penetration tactic.

First up:

OPERATION SPARTICUS: U CRAFT

The goods:

There is a licensed Nintendo Wii U studio developing a Minecraft Clone called U Craft. We are about to reveal the first alpha images of it, revealing the game, but not the developer behind it!!

Following tomorrows reveal, other studios will be revealing new U Craft content in future. You’ll never know where the new info will come from or from who! We hope you enjoy speculating the mystery developer behind U Craft!

#OperationSparticus

What the team gains from not revealing the developer we’re not sure, but if this means fans of Minecraft can get a similar experience on Wii U given all the other clones on mobile, we’re all for it.
