Michael Pachter in 2012: Nintendo could make a cardboard box and fans would buy it

Back in 2012, video game analyst Michael Pachter joked that Nintendo could make a cardboard box and put a Nintendo logo on it and fans would buy it.

That turned out to be true. Sort of.

Last week Nintendo revealed their latest project: Nintendo Labo, a set of cardboard toys aimed at younger players that lets them assemble various items out of cardboard.

While some mocked Nintendo’s new initiative, the moneymen did not: the market loved Nintendo’s idea and the company’s shares rose almost 5% after the announcement of Labo.

Nintendo Labo will hit the shelves in April and will start at $70.
