Mario + Rabbids launches at no. 1 spot in Japan

Last week Ubisoft finally released Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle in Japan, and it’s off to a very good start: the game debuted at the top of the sales charts, selling 67,000 units, more than any other game that week.

It’s quite interesting to see it do this well — while it’s got “Mario” in the title, it’s not developed by Nintendo. It’s not even developed by a Japanese game developer, and it still managed to reach the no. 1 spot.

Mario + Rabbids was the best selling third party game for the Switch in 2017 and has sold over a million copies to date (Ubisoft has yet to release specific sales figures for the game).
