Rumor: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle coming to Switch this summer

Once again, the rumored Mario and Rabbids crossover game rears its head. However, what makes this latest ride on the rumor train interesting is that our new information comes from none other than Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, someone who’s famous for his ability to leak details months before they were supposed to be announced.

Schreier says that a source of his recently showed him assets from the upcoming game, seemingly confirming its existence. According to his report, the game will be called Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and it’ll be available on the Switch later this year. Schreier wasn’t sure on an exact date, but he did say “August or September.”

The Ubisoft-developed game will run on the studio’s Snowdrop engine. If you own any other platforms, you might recognize that name as the engine Ubisoft Massive used when developing The Division for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If the Nintendo Switch is capable of running Snowdrop without a problem, then we expect Kingdom Battle to look pretty good.

Schreier states that Kingdom Battle will be a turn-based RPG starring Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and four Rabbids dressed up as the aforementioned Mario crew. The large cast will allow the team to weave in a two-player, local co-op mode. Perhaps this will be playable using either Joy-Con? Ubisoft also appears to be going for a humoristic tone, even going as far as to have “Mario and crew wielding guns that shoot laser beams,” as Schreier puts it.

Without an official announcement or a look at any assets ourselves, we’re still pegging this one as a rumor. That said, this potential game is turning out to be more interesting than we though.
