Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle gets great reviews

Gamers have had mixed thoughts about Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Not only is it a weird mix of Mario with Ubisoft’s Rabbids universe, but it’s also a turn-based tactical game, and many were unsure about how that would turn out.

Well, judging by the first reviews of the game, it turned out pretty well.

GameSpot gave the game a 9 out of 10, calling it a new Mario Party, and that it’s got a “deep and exciting turn-based combat system”.

Polygon gave it an 8 out of 10, saying that the game offers a “legitimately challenging squad tactics experience without alienating the family friendly Mario audience”.

Time Magazine, not really known for their game reviews, gave it a 5/5 and called it a “Gonzo Strategy Masterpiece”, adding “if you’ve ever wondered what an archetypal Nintendo game made not-by-Nintendo would look like, here you go.”

IGN gave it a 7.7/10, and said that “the game embraces the fact that it’s complete nonsense on every level, and just rolls with it.” (but in a fun way).

All reviews mentioned one thing: that the game is quite challenging, even for veterans of turn-based games. And the consensus seems that there is about 18-20 hours of gameplay, which is quite good.

Overall, it seems that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle might be a sleeper hit on the Switch. We’ll have to wait and see how it does sales-wise.
