Mario Odyssey analysis reveals 720p resolution, 60 fps

Super Mario Odyssey was one of the biggest hits at E3 last week, the game looked like the Mario title everyone has been waiting for. Now the guys over at Digital Foundry analyzed the E3 demos and concluded that the game runs at 720p, but at 60 frames per second.

Further analysis revealed some of the corners Nintendo had to cut in order to get those 60 frames per second. For example, distant objects and characters are rendered in 2D and replaced with 3D models as players get closer. And the animations of some of the NPC characters in the main city run at 30 fps, not 60.

Keep in mind that the game is still in development and that a lot can change and improve in the next few months.

Super Mario Odyssey will be released on October 27, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. And if you don’t already know, it will come with a brand new co-op feature.
