March NPD Numbers – Wii U 70k, 3DS 159k

feature-npd-group

Every month we take a look at the numbers analysts are given by NPD Group, an analyst company that lets us see into just how well consoles and software are doing in North America. Unlike Japan, these numbers are not released freely and every week, instead we have to rely on what analysts with access to the numbers say every month.

This month’s numbers have the Wii U placed at 70k for the month, with an analyst confirming that the Wii U and Wii combined sold less than 100k units together. The Nintendo 3DS managed to sell 159k units during the month of March. To put that into perspective with the competition, the Xbox One managed to sell 311k units, which is surprisingly low given that Titanfall launched in March and Microsoft offered several bundles that effectively dropped the price the console. Overall the best selling console of the month was the PlayStation 4, as said by Sony themselves.

With NPD numbers we don’t get a look at software numbers either, but rather their rankings for the month. Titanfall took the top spot for the month of March, while the PS4 exclusive inFamous: Second Son managed to claim the second spot. From there, multi-platform releases iron out the rest of March. Only two games with Wii U versions remain in the top then and those are likely not due to their Wii U software alone.
