Let’s Talk Smash: What are you favorite things from the Nintendo Direct?

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct contained a whole wealth of information about the new Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. While it was disappointing to learn that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will launch before the Wii U version, some of the announcements and changes to the game were very exciting.

Perhaps the biggest piece of news is that producer Masahiro Sakurai is finally acknowledging competitive players who follow the traditional “no items, fox only, final destination” ruleset when it comes to competitive play. This new For Glory mode follows most of these tenets aside from Fox only and perhaps the biggest surprise is that each of the stages now has its own Final Destination mode in which all the platforms are removed so players who enjoy this mode can enjoy the new stages without compromising the fairness of a flat level.

Several characters had their core abilities changed and the most notable of these were Zelda and Samus having their transformations divided up into new characters, instead of being a core mechanic for the original. Both Sheik and Zero Suit Samus are new playable fighters, with Zero Suit Samus getting the addition of rocket heel boots to help her attacks and jump.

Of course the Pokemon of the series got a lot of love too, as both Charizard and Lucario are now capable of mega-evolving, though we didn’t see much information on that yesterday. Greninja was also announced as a new character for the series, which has left many people wondering if Jigglypuff will finally sit on the bench for this game.

With all this new information about both versions of the game, we’re eager to hear your opinions. What’s your favorite new feature? Were you hoping a character would be announced that wasn’t? Take our poll where you can check multiple options and if we left out something you want to talk about, hit us up in the comments!
