No, Lego City Undercover doesn’t have a mandatory install

Yesterday we reported on some interesting information found on the back of the retail Lego City Undercover box that suggested gamers would need to clear at least 13GB of space on their Nintendo Switch or their microSD card in order to play the game, even for the retail copy of the game that comes on a cartridge.

Eurogamer first reported the news and reached out to Warner Bros. Entertainment for clarification and they’ve released the following statement about the issue.

“Players who purchase Lego City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play.”

That still doesn’t explain why the back of the box says you need an internet connection and at least 13GB of storage to play the game, but perhaps it’s left over from the Xbox One and PS4 releases of the game and Warner Bros. didn’t revise the box packaging that much? Who knows. Either way, if you buy this game on a cart, you won’t need to install it to play it. Case closed, as Chase would say.

Lego City: Undercover is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 4th.
