New details about Lego City Undercover on Switch revealed

LEGO City: Undercover was originally a Wii U launch title before being ported to other consoles a few years ago. Now the game is back as a Switch launch window title with a handful of improvements and changes to the gameplay to accommodate the lack of the Wii U GamePad.

The game is coming out on April 4th for Nintendo Switch and it features split screen local multiplayer, which you’d think would allow players to use one Joy-Con per player. While that was the setup originally, it’s been revealed that the developers felt the lack of a second analog stick to move the camera resulted in poor gameplay, so support for a single Joy-Con controller was removed.

Additionally, it doesn’t seem like much optimization has been done on the game to get it ready for the Switch launch, as the game ran at 720p on the Wii U and it will do so on the Switch in docked mode, too. It seems as though the game won’t be taking advantage of the extra processing power in the Switch that allows Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to run at 1080p.

That’s unfortunate, but for people who missed out on this game the first time, don’t let these details hinder you. It’s actually a pretty great game that we thoroughly enjoyed when we played it the first time.
