Japanese sales: Monster Hunter still on top, Wii U sees small increase

There is no denying that Japan is in love with the Monster Hunter series. For the third straight week in a row, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has claimed the top spot on the software charts. This week brought the grand total for this entry into the series to over 2 million copies sold in Japan alone. Yokai Watch 2 is still popular and hanging in at number 2, while Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has broken the 1.5 million mark and continues to sell well in third place.

You have to drop down all the way to 17th place to find a Wii U title, with Mario Kart 8 managing to hang in there. It’s achieved almost 700k sold in Japan and despite other Wii U games like Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, and Fatal Frame 5 missing from the charts shortly after release, the Wii U saw a small bump in sales. It’s not enough to bring it up to its pre-Monster Hunter 4 sales, but any gain is a good one as we move into the holiday season.
