Japanese Wii U sales plummet in the wake of no new games

The Wii U had a surprisingly robust holiday season in Japan, thanks in part to a wide variety of titles for new adopters to choose from. Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, and Mario Kart 8 led the charge for Wii U sales during the holiday season, but now that the time for new adopters has passed, Wii U sales have fallen behind as Sony steps up to the plate with new releases this week.

Splatoon and Super Mario Maker still managed to make the top of the charts in terms of software sold with Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash also making an appearance, but the Wii U is down 5k units from just last week, to just under 4k sold this week. Here’s a look at the numbers.
