Iwata squashes Wii U redesign rumors

The E3 rumor mill is in full effect, with a rumor that Nintendo will be unveiling new hardware at E3 quickly squashed by Nintendo UK. That hasn’t stopped the rumor that Nintendo will unveil a redesigned Wii U, which Iwata finally stepped in and stated was a “groundless” rumor. He reiterated that his company has no plans to introduce new hardware at E3 and that the company will be focusing on showing games that utilize the GamePad in a new way.

The only credible rumor about new hardware is that Nintendo will be producing a new console for emerging markets, similar to how the Nintendo 2DS provides a cheaper experience in order to play Nintendo 3DS games. Sorry folks, a redesigned Wii U isn’t happening, even if it needs to happen. 32GB is just too small for a current console, especially one selling games that sometimes reach 15+ GB.
