Iwata promises more unannounced Wii U games by 2014

Wii U Games 2014
We have to admit, Nintendo’s Wii U E3 lineup wasn’t as great as we expected. Nintendo previously promised over 10 new games at E3, but we didn’t see that many. And that may have been intentional, according to The Glorious Leader Of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata.

In a new statement to investors, Iwata says that Nintendo didn’t want to show off too many Wii U games at E3, as that would have made things too crowded. But he assures Wii U owners that there are more unannounced Wii U games that will be released by 2014.

Iwata also reasons this by saying that they didn’t want to reveal everything as not to “allow our competitors to copy”. Here’s his answer to investors regarding new Wii U games:

“There are more unannounced Wii U titles coming by 2014. There was more info than could be released at E3. Wanted to ease owners’ fears. Don’t want to leave a long gap between announcement/release of new game types that would lessen the impact or allow competitors to copy.”

The last part makes a lot of sense — no point in announcing a game today that’ll be released a year from now (although many developers/publishers do this to build “hype” for their game).

Nintendo has several key Wii U games scheduled for release, including Pikmin 3 later this Summer, Wind Waker HD this Fall, and Super Mairo 3D World in December. Then early next year, we’re getting Mario Kart 8. In 2014, Nintendo also plans to release highly anticipated games such as Super Smash Bros U and Bayonetta 2.

But Nintendo still needs the support from third parries, and they need to move more Wii U consoles over the store counters in order to attract more publishers to the platform.
