Earlier this year shortly before E3, Nintendo made a brief announcement that its CEO, Satoru Iwata, would not be attending this year due to recovery from surgery to remove a bile-duct growth in his abdomen. Since then, Iwata has remained on light duty while recovering from his surgery. Today, Iwata has returned to his regular work schedule, with his first appearance in order to headline Nintendo’s second quarterly financial earnings.
Iwata remarked that after the surgery he has lost weight, but feels much better after having the problem taken care of. We’re happy to see Iwata is feeling better, as this past Nintendo Direct dedicated to Super Smash Bros. felt a bit empty without his smiling face bringing the news direct to us.
