For those of you who don’t know, Unity is a fairly popular game engine that works for a variety of platforms, including the Wii U. Well, just last week Unity Technologies held their annual Unite Conference in Seattle, and one of the presenters was Nintendo, who hosed the lecture “Unity and the Nintendo Wii U eShop.”

In it we learned a lot of interesting details about Nintendo’s sales numbers and some statistics about the eShop. Some of the most interesting statics are that over 90% of all Wii U consoles have been connected to the internet. Likewise of all connected users more than 70% of them (about 63% of all Wii U users) visit the eShop on a “regular basis.” According to the presentation many of these people are repeat customers.

We also got to see a bit of a breakdown on the demographics of the Wii U eShop. As for the age ranges, they go as follows:

  • 0-12 – 1%
  • 13-17 – 5%
  • 18-24 – 33%
  • 25-34 – 46%
  • 35+ – 14%

So, in general, they’re about the same as the gamer population at large, skewing towards older teenagers and young adults. Lastly, when it comes to demographics, the eShop has a heafty M/F ratio of 93/7. This means that a absurdly high proportion of the people who visit the Wii U’s eShop are males.

There was also an interesting breakdown of Wii U sales over time. Specifically the sales spike that came with the release of Mario Kart 8. Not much was revealed there we didn’t already know, but it was interesting to see a specific breakdown.

Finally, and probably most interestingly was an accidental game reveal at about 7 minutes into the video. Damon Baker of Nintendo of America includes Gone Home, in his list of Unity-driven Wii U titles that are going to be releasing soon. The game is a first person, story-driven exploration game which has been released on PC, but hasn’t been officially announced for Wii U. It was also said that the game will make use of the GamePad on the Wii U as well.

What do you all think of this information? Anything particularly interesting or surprising? Are you excited to hear that Gone Home might be coming to Wii U? (Assuming Damon Baker didn’t misspeak or anything) Let us know in the comments!
