Despite Hyrule Warriors not having online co-op like most Dynasty Warriors games, it appears the game will have some online connectivity in the retro mode, as detailed by producer Yosuke Hayashihas. A feature called “Network Link” will allow you import a Link into your map with a level based on current user data. Assisting this Link in a fight will allow to obtain special bonuses. Here’s the full quote from the GameInformer interview:

The Adventure Mode features a ‘Network Link’ feature. This allows you to add a ‘Link’ to your maps whose level is based on other users’ play data. If you come to this Link’s aid and fight alongside him, you’ll get access to special bonuses.

There were no details on why this mode would have online connectivity but the main game wouldn’t. This new mode of play was revealed during last night’s Nintendo Direct, which focused specifically on Hyrule Warriors. Ganondorf was also revealed as a playable character, bringing the total roster of playable characters up to more than 13 characters.
