An achievement system is something many gamers want Nintendo to include in their next home console, but that doesn’t mean the company hasn’t flirted with accomplishments and achievements in individual games. We’ve seen it in third-party releases like Splinter Cell: Blacklist, but Nintendo themselves has experimented with an achievement system in the Nintendo 3DS’ various StreetPass games.

New evidence has surfaced after hackers dissecting Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze found data relating to a scrapped achievement system in that game. According to the data found, players earn achievements by beating bosses, finding all the KONG letters in levels, and collecting puzzle pieces. The game shipped without the system, so it’s likely it was either cut due to time, or Nintendo felt that Retro shouldn’t focus on this aspect of the game.
