Google Voice Chrome extension update brings desktop notifications

Fellow Google Voice and Chrome users surely have the service’s Chrome extension installed. The extension allows you to quickly read messages, send them, listen to voicemail and control other Google Voice functions. It turns Google Voice into the ultimate synchronization tool between the smartphone and the browser/desktop – and it just got a little better!

The Google Voice Chrome extension has recently received an update that enables desktop notifications. No, not the same “ping” we have had for a long time. This is an actual notification box that pops up displaying your the sender’s number/name and the text message (or part of it), as well as voicemail information.

It is a simple update, but a very helpful one. It works with both Mac and Windows computers. One can also disable notifications if necessary, so there is no need to keep getting distracted while working or doing other important things.

It has been working like a charm for us, so go ahead and check it out!
