Google’s April Fools joke has you catching Pokemon!

Every year for April Fool’s Day, Google puts together several elaborate pranks or fake products to make those in the tech community go crazy. It’s become something of a tradition so that we expect it, but one of the pranks Google is pulling today makes us wish something like this actually existed. Incorporated into Google Maps until April 2 is a Pokemon hunt, where you can catch 150 different Pokemon scattered across the world. The hunt starts at the Googleplex and from there expands across the globe.

You might think since there are 150 Pokemon available that they’ve chosen to honor the original monsters, but that’s not the case. Browsing around the San Francisco Bay area I picked up an Emolga, Luxray, and Dedenne. If you want to try it yourself, just fire up the Google Maps app on your Android device and tap the search bar as if you’re going to look up a location. You should see a Pokeball icon and the words Press Start. That’s how you start your hunt. So get to hunting! You’ve got 150 Pokemon to catch in the real world!

And if you want to be a cheater cheater pumpkin eater, here’s a reddit thread that will help you out, but don’t say you got it from me.
