GameStop: Wii U sales are slower than expected

GameStop Wii UIt comes as no surprise that the Wii U isn’t selling well. Nintendo recently cut the sales forecast for the fiscal year which ends this month to just 4 million units. Earlier today we reported that the Wii U sold just 66,000 units in February in the US, which is disappointing number, no matter how you slice it. Back in January, it was reported that the console sold around 125,000 units.

GameStop, the biggest game retailer in the world, isn’t too happy with Wii U sales either. GameStop President Tony Bartel said in a recent interview that they aren’t pleased with the sales, but added that there are better times ahead of us. He said:

“Following the holiday launch period, sales have been slower than we expected. Nintendo plans on launching some of their biggest IP over the next few months which we think will increase gamer interest.”

Nintendo is planning on launching Pikmin 3 in a month or two, and then later this year, we’ll be getting Zelda: Wind Waker HD. However, many — including us here at Wii U Daily — have criticized Nintendo for not doing enough to spread awareness of the new console. Since launch, there has been virtually no Wii U advertising anywhere.
